A CULTURE OF SAFETY
Safety best practices are first and foremost in everything that we do. All leaders preview the sites we visit and have been thoroughly trained in Wild Traveler safety practices and policies. The Wild Traveler has developed an emergency safety protocol for each area that we travel. We use only the most reputable outfitters for our technical activities (i.e. SCUBA diving, surfing, and kayaking). All leaders carry a cell phone or satellite phone for emergency communication. We are proud of our safety record and strive to ensure each group has a safe and successful experience.
LOW PARTICIPANT-TO-LEADER RATIOS
We accept no more than 12 participants per teen adventure tour. That means our participants are able to build strong friendships and an even stronger group. With never more than 6 participants to 1 leader, we often have 3 participants to 1 leader during our adventure activities. Leaders provide 24-hour supervision.
TRAINED, EXPERIENCED LEADERS
Wild Traveler leaders are Wilderness First Responders (80+ hours in first aid) and CPR certified (learn more at the Wilderness Medicine Institute). Our leaders exhibit a high level of safety awareness, and demonstrate sound judgment and strong risk management skills. Click to learn more about Our Leaders.
Trip leaders maintain daily contact with our office. All trip leaders carry cell phones. In areas where cell service is not available, trip leaders carry satellite phones. Our office is available 24 hours a day, so if you need to contact your teen during the tour, give our office a call.
ATTENTION TO DETAILS
We carefully design and redesign our trips with attention to detail and safety. Every aspect of each trip is planned well over a year in advance (lodging, transportation, lessons and activities, etc). Click HERE for the sample Hawaii itinerary.
ON-SITE STAFF ORIENTATION
Our trip leaders have visited and studied the places we travel. During our pre-season on-site orientation, we review every detail of our trip as well as safety and emergency procedures.
From the moment participants arrive they are taught to pay attention to safety. From adventure activities to setting up camp, each activity begins with a thorough safety briefing.
Our technical activities (SCUBA instruction, surf lessons, kayaking, etc.) are led by some of the finest outfitters and instructors in their fields. Trip leaders are always present and participating during outfitted activities.
