Attention to safety
Safety is our priority. Safety best practices are first and foremost in everything that we do. The Wild Traveler has developed an emergency safety protocol for each area in which we travel. We strive to ensure that each group has a safe and successful experience.
IMPECCABLE SAFETY RECORD
Since we began leading trips in 2010, we have had no major incidents. We are proud of our impeccable safety record and continue to execute excellent risk management on every level.
LOW PARTICIPANT-TO-LEADER RATIOS
The Wild Traveler believes in the benefits of small group travel with a maximum of 12 participants per group. With our smaller groups, participants build stronger friendships, create positive group dynamics, and lessen our collective footprint on the places we travel. With never more than 6 participants to 1 leader, we often have 3 participants to 1 leader during our adventure activities. Leaders provide 24-hour supervision.
Our trip leaders have a minimum of 5 years of trip leading experience, and they have in-depth knowledge in the places we lead. Our leaders have been hired to conduct staff trainings and staff workshops for other outdoor companies. Wild Traveler trip leaders lead programs for teens, families and school groups throughout the year and all over the world.
WILDERNESS FIRST RESPONDERS / CPR CERTIFIED
Our trip leaders undergo an extensive 80+ hour Wilderness First Responder medical training course. All Wild Traveler trip leaders also hold CPR/AED certification. Our leaders pay close attention to safety and have experience managing risk in outdoor settings with teenagers around the world.
COMMUNICATION – OPEN 24/7
Our office is open 24 hours per day during our summer session. Our trip leaders check in with our office team on a daily basis. All trip leaders carry cell phones and an emergency satellite communication device. If you have questions or want to talk to our trip leaders or your child, just give us a call and we’ll make it happen. We are available.
ATTENTION TO DETAIL
Our programs are designed with an attention to detail. Our daily activities are scheduled. We also have backup activities and shelters available in the event of inclement weather. You will be notified of any major changes to the itinerary in advance. You can find sample day-to day-itineraries on each trip’s specific trip page.
Our trip leaders and office staff prepare for each trip days, weeks, and months in advance.
From the moment participants arrive, they are taught to pay attention to their personal safety and the safety of the group. From adventure activities to setting up camp, each activity begins with a thorough briefing.
Our technical activities (SCUBA instruction, surf lessons, kayaking, etc.) are led by some of the finest outfitters and instructors in their fields. Our trip leaders are present and actively participating in all outfitted activities.
