The Greek islands ignite the imagination and satisfy the soul with a history laced in mythical tales and told through ancient, sun-bleached ruins. On your trip to Greece, you'll explore the city of Athens and island hop around the Cyclades archipelago with stops on Santorini, Mykonos and Naxos. These islands are known for their beaches, ancient sites, rugged landscapes and traditional blue-and-white stucco towns overlooking the sea. Enjoy a balance of relaxing and adventure activities including, sailing, soaking in hot springs, shopping, hiking, snorkeling, beach time, exploring ancient ruins, cooking classes and so much more!
Experience the beauty of Santorini while sailing the crystal blue waters of the Aegean Sea. Sail around the island and into the famous Palea Kameni caldera, a flooded volcanic crater, on a chartered catamaran. Stop to soak the Nea Kameni hot springs; swim, snorkel and relax at picturesque beaches.
According to Greek mythology, Apollo was born on this tiny island in the Cyclades archipelago. Apollo's sanctuary attracted pilgrims from all over Greece and Delos was a prosperous trading port. The archaeological site, also a UNESCO world heritage site, is exceptionally extensive and rich and conveys the image of a great cosmopolitan Mediterranean port.
Hike to the summit of Mt Zeus, the mythological stomping grounds of Zeus. Tucked away on the slopes of the mountain is a small cave where Zeus was born. The summit also marks the highest point in the Cyclades archipelago. From the top, we'll be treated to sweeping views of the rest of the island and other islands that dot the Aegean Sea.
After so much activity we'll make sure to take plenty time to relax on the best beaches. We'll rent umbrellas and beach chairs to get that perfect shade sun combination. We'll end our beach day with a competitive paddle ball competition.
We'll spend our nights in the quintessential white washed houses that line the cliffs overlooking the Aegean Sea. In the evenings we'll make our way through the maze of narrow cobble stone streets for dinners at our favorite restaurants.
Enjoy a 4-hours hands-on private culinary experience in a traditional house in the heart of Naxos. Chop, smash, saute, broil, baste and serve. We’ll cook and eat a typical Naxian menu and dine with our new local chef friends. You'll get a recipe book of the foods you cook to take home.
All participants will be met at Los Angeles International Airport by their Wild Traveler leaders. After a few ice breakers and some get to know you games, we will take our international flight to Athens, Greece. Upon arrival, we’ll take the train to Plaka, located in the heart of the city. Plaka is without a doubt one of the most picturesque neighborhoods in Athens, with its narrow streets, lovely neoclassical buildings, small cafes, souvenir shops and ancient ruins in almost every corner. Plaka is in the heart of the center of Athens, just under the Acropolis hill creating a feeling of nostalgia of ancient Athens.
Athens is the capital of Greece. It was also at the heart of Ancient Greece, a powerful civilization and empire. We’ll explore the city’s dominating 5th-century BC landmarks, including the Acropolis, a hilltop citadel topped with ancient buildings, Temple of Olympian Zeus and the Ancient Agora of Athens. In the evenings we’ll catch a movie at the outdoor theater and explore the shopping streets of the old town.
After breakfast, we’ll shuttle to the port and catch our first ferry and take it to Santorini. Santorini is one of the Cyclades islands in the Aegean Sea. It was devastated by a volcanic eruption in the 16th century BC, forever shaping its rugged landscape. The whitewashed, cubiform houses of its 2 principal towns, Fira and Oia, cling to cliffs above an underwater caldera overlooking the sea. We’ll stay in one of the quintessential blue and white houses that line of hillside along Santorini’s beautiful coast line. We’ll take the afternoon to explore the old town, eat, hang out on the beach and relax.
